UPN Steel Channel Supplier

Taper-flange channels matched to the connection face and section schedule

We supply UPN steel channels for fabricators ordering the European tapered-flange series. The channel depth, flange width and wall dimensions remain tied to the UPN designation. Straight lengths, cut pieces and drawing-prepared members can be combined in one order, with the open-face direction identified for each fabricated part.

Selected nominal dimensions and steel mass from the ArcelorMittal section reference. Use the complete designation for profile geometry. Our quotation identifies the material grade, supplied lengths and quantities; the project design establishes member resistance and connection requirements. The cited catalog uses a nominal 8% inner flange slope through 300 mm depth and 5% above that group.

UPN profile, grade and tolerance basis

The UPN name fixes the shape

A generic U or C description is incomplete. UPN identifies a tapered-flange series; American C/MC and parallel-flange UPE are different section systems.

Grade and quality identify the material

The material standard and grade stay separate from the channel designation. Any specified toughness quality and test-document requirement remain on the same line.

Nominal geometry and permitted variation

The table provides the nominal profile. Channel tolerances, straightness and ordered surface acceptance are checked under the applicable purchase specification.

UPN cuts, holes and bearing details

Tapered-face seating

A bolt or plate on the inclined inner flange uses the connection designer’s seating detail. The accessory schedule identifies any tapered washers or other seating hardware required with the channel.

Open face and reference end

A prepared channel can be left- or right-handed even when its raw profile is unchanged. Hole positions use the named web face, toe direction and reference end.

Built-up pairs

Back-to-back or toe-to-toe pairs need their spacing and connector details defined. We separate raw channel supply from the work needed to turn two lengths into a built-up member.

UPN material for frames and retained steelwork

Frames with tapered-flange channels

Fabrication schedules identify each channel member and the fittings that seat against it. The open section must be used with the restraint and connection arrangement established by the design.

Replacement channel members

An older channel may be specified in a retained UPN series. Depth, flange width and inner-face shape help establish the match before hole or attachment details are reproduced.

Identify the tapered series

Section depth, flange width and thickness checks distinguish the ordered UPN profile. Flange measurements follow the applicable tapered-section reference location.

Hole side and end references

Prepared pieces are checked for the correct hand and datum as well as hole size. A matching hole pattern on the wrong face can prevent assembly.

Separate material and fabrication records

Material records identify the raw section and heat. Drawing-based feature checks record the dimensions of the added fabrication work.

UPN packing and supply quantities

Nested channels need receiving access

Bundle layout supports the channel bodies, protects the toes and leaves lifting access. Prepared parts with attachments receive separate support at suitable load-bearing points.

Count members as well as mass

Nominal kg/m supports the theoretical quantity calculation. Piece counts and lengths identify the shipment when similar UPN sizes or left- and right-hand prepared parts are included.

Separate the preparation price

Our offer identifies the channel sizes, lengths and any fabrication work. Finish, packing and delivery terms are stated for the requested shipment.

UPN Steel Channels purchasing questions

Which inner flange slope applies to UPN?

The cited catalog uses 8% for UPN depths through 300 mm and 5% above that group. The exact ordered size identifies the applicable section detail.

How should UPN be identified on a channel schedule?

Use the complete UPN designation with material grade, length and quantity. This identifies the European tapered-flange profile distinctly from UPE and American C or MC series.

How is a back-to-back UPN pair ordered?

The drawing defines the gap, spacers, connectors and end details. The quotation distinguishes two raw channel lengths from the fabrication work for an assembled pair.

How are left- and right-hand channel parts marked?

Left- and right-hand prepared parts need distinguishable marks. The raw section can be identical while its hole face, end cuts or attached cleats differ.

How are the steel grade and protective finish specified?

The material line names the base-steel grade and its records. A separate surface requirement identifies the paint or zinc coating and its acceptance scope.

Can channel lengths and loose connection fittings share one packing list?

Yes. The packing list keeps the channels, loose fittings and any fabricated assemblies on identified lines with their own piece counts and references.
