Threaded Pipe Couplings Supplier

A105 forged NPT couplings for small-bore piping orders

We source forged carbon-steel couplings to your piping specification. Full couplings join two male threaded pipe ends; half and reducing couplings are quoted as separate patterns. Each line item identifies the end sizes, NPT thread, material and fitting class so a short half coupling is never supplied as a two-ended joint.

Material, class and thread requirements

ASTM A105 material

A105 identifies the carbon-steel forging material. Keep the material designation on the purchase order and request the material records required by your project.

ASME B16.11 fitting classes

The threaded fitting classes in B16.11 are 2000, 3000 and 6000. The project piping class sets the permitted material and service conditions.

NPT ends

NPT couplings use the tapered pipe-thread system in ASME B1.20.1. BSPT and NPT are different thread specifications even when the nominal size names match.

Choose the coupling pattern

Full coupling

Choose a full coupling for a straight joint between two male threaded ends. Check the overall body length against nearby branches, valves and supports.

Half coupling

A half coupling has a single threaded connection. Its other end must match the specified attachment detail. A through joint uses a full coupling.

Reducing coupling

Order both nominal sizes and identify which end mates with each pipe. A reducing coupling changes the connection size so one fitting covers both sizes.

Finish and protection

Include any specified finish with the material description. Paint or galvanizing must not obscure the thread identification or substitute for the required base material.

Couplings for fabricated piping packages

Skid pipework

A small-bore skid order often contains many repeated joints. Group couplings by pattern, size and class so assembly crews receive the correct through joints and branch attachments.

Distributor line items

Full, half and reducing patterns need separate stock descriptions. The pattern name distinguishes a short half coupling from an equal full coupling.

Maintenance replacements

Identify the existing fitting material, thread system and class before ordering a replacement.

Thread and body checks for couplings

Correct pattern

Receiving checks distinguish two-ended full couplings, single-ended half couplings and the two sizes of a reducing coupling.

Thread condition

Internal threads need clean starts and undamaged crests. Thread gauging checks the specified connection, and NPT fit is verified by thread gauge.

Body length

Measure the stated overall length on the full coupling. The half-coupling dimension applies only to the half pattern.

Material identification

Match the material and class identification to the order and its document package. The grade is read from that identification.

Packing and order breakdown

Keep patterns separated

We itemize each coupling pattern and end-size combination. Separate packs prevent half couplings and equal full couplings of the same NPS from being mixed at receiving.

Protect female threads

Clean, protected openings reduce damage and contamination during shipment. Small fittings are packed by identified size and pattern, each group kept separate.

Quote the complete package

Send the coupling schedule with any matching elbows, tees and plugs. The quotation states quantities, required records and shipment terms for the requested destination.

Threaded coupling purchasing questions

Can a coupling replace a union when both pipe ends are already fixed?

A normal full coupling requires the threaded assembly to be made up by turning a mating part. A union provides a separable joint without rotating the adjoining pipework. The assembly layout must allow the selected connection; a full coupling is not a direct substitute for that disconnection point.

Does a Class 3000 coupling have a working pressure of 3000 psi?

The class designation is not a fixed pressure rating for every material and temperature. Use the pressure-temperature limits and fitting selection required by the project piping class.

Can a BSPT male pipe connect to an NPT coupling?

It is not the specified mating connection. NPT and BSPT differ in their thread geometry; order the same thread system on both sides of the joint.

Can I combine different reducing couplings in one order?

Yes. List each large-end and small-end size as a separate line, with its class and quantity. A total count of reducing couplings without the end pairs is insufficient for purchasing or packing.

Do couplings include thread sealant?

Sealant is a separate installation item unless it is explicitly included in the supply scope. The installer selects a sealant suitable for the conveyed medium, temperature and piping requirements.

Is a galvanized coupling the same as a stainless-steel coupling?

No. Galvanizing is a zinc surface finish on a base metal; stainless steel is a different material. Keep the base grade and finish as separate purchasing requirements.
