Valve assembly specification

Each valve is quoted as a complete assembly with its specified body, internals, seat, packing and operator. Stainless bodies with PTFE seats and metal-seated constructions remain separate selections.

These selected PN16 ball-valve lengths come from the BAOLAI product drawing. L is the flange-to-flange length; inches are millimeter conversions. Gate and butterfly models use their own drawings, with flange drilling, facing and operator clearance identified separately.

DN50 PN16: 200 mm Face-to-Face

The selected DN50 PN16 ball valve has a 200 mm flange-to-flange length. A Class 150 version in the same factory drawing uses 178 mm instead. The order retains the chosen pressure series, flange pattern and operator envelope.

Ball bore and flow restriction

Full-port and reduced-port describe the passage through the ball, not the flange size. A reduced port introduces a smaller flow section. The required bore belongs on the valve specification when pressure drop or a clear passage matters.

Gate valves for line isolation

A gate valve suits a line operated fully open or fully closed. Holding the gate partly open changes the duty to throttling and exposes its sealing edges to flow. A process needing regular flow adjustment calls for a valve designed for that service.

Butterfly valves and the flow path

The butterfly disc remains in the passage when open. Its diameter and rotation envelope affect clearance at the adjoining pipe or reducer. Flow regulation also depends on the disc, seat and operator design; a manual isolation valve is not automatically a control valve.

Body, seat and packing choices

Carbon steel and stainless bodies

WCB carbon steel and stainless steel are separate body choices. Fluid composition, corrosion conditions and the piping material specification determine the required grade. The valve internals need their own material entries rather than inheriting the body description.

PTFE seats and metal sealing

Our flanged ball valve catalog includes PTFE seats; the gate valve catalog identifies stainless steel seating. A soft seat and a metal sealing surface have different temperature, wear and leakage characteristics. The selected seat construction sets the applicable acceptance basis.

Stem seals and service temperature

Packing seals around the moving stem, while the seat seals across the closed flow path. Process temperature affects both, including shutdown or cleaning conditions. The complete valve rating follows the body and sealing system together, rather than the metal body alone.

Valve pressure class and PN ratings

Class 150 and PN16 are different rating and connection designations. Pressure-temperature ratings depend on the governing valve specification and material; seat limits also apply. A nominal class number is not a constant pressure limit in psi, and matching pipe size does not make the flange systems interchangeable.

Connections and operating space

Flanged ends and gasket faces

ASME, DIN and JIS flange connections retain their specified drilling and gasket-face arrangement. Bolting and gasket selection follow that connection. The supplied valve drawing identifies the end standard and facing alongside the installed length.

Double-flanged, wafer and lug bodies

A double-flanged butterfly valve has end flanges of its own. Wafer bodies fit between pipe flanges, while lug bodies have individual bolting lugs. Their installation lengths and bolt arrangements differ; dead-end use follows the particular valve design and rating.

Handwheel and gear orientation

A gate valve needs room above its bonnet for the specified stem travel. Gear-operated quarter-turn valves need access around the wheel and gear housing. Operator orientation matters near walls, skid frames and adjacent pipes even when the valve body fits.

Manual operation and automation

A manual gear reduces the effort needed to turn the valve; it does not provide remote operation. An automated assembly requires a separately specified actuator, torque basis, supply and control signal. The manual operator and an actuator package have different quotation scopes.

Valve inspection and acceptance records

Connection and installation dimensions

Connection, face-to-face length and operator clearance are checked against the approved valve drawing. The dimensional record carries the valve identity, size and drawing revision.

Operator travel and assembly

The operator is checked through its opening and closing travel. The position indication, stops and stem connection must correspond to the closure movement. Gear assemblies and bonnet fasteners remain part of the supplied valve configuration.

Shell and closure tests

A shell test checks the pressure-containing assembly; a closure test checks leakage across the closed seat. The order test specification states the method, pressure, duration and leakage criterion. API 598 is a valve inspection and testing reference when specified for the selected construction.

Records tied to the valve line

Material and inspection records are supplied for the ordered model and schedule tag, including its body, trim, seat, size and rating.

Valve tags and piece counts

A valve is counted as a complete assembly with its quoted manual operator. Package identification follows the schedule tag, type, size and rating, with material and seat construction kept distinct. Different operators or trim remain separate order lines.

Protected ports and supported bodies

Port covers protect the flow openings and machined flange faces. Wooden boxes or crates support the valve body and separate neighboring assemblies. Stems, handwheels and gear housings remain clear of stacking loads.

Itemized wholesale supply

Our quotation sets the batch quantity and price for each valve construction, along with the production schedule, required documents and shipping terms for the destination. Spare parts and separately specified actuation packages retain their own quantities and prices.

Industrial valve purchasing questions

Can you quote a replacement from an existing valve part number?

Yes. A part number and its datasheet provide the starting reference. The replacement comparison covers the connection, installed length, body and trim, seat and operator. The quoted model is identified separately from the original manufacturer’s part number.

Can seat kits and packing be included as spare parts?

Yes. Spare parts are quoted against the selected valve model and construction. Nominal size alone is insufficient to identify a seat ring or packing set; the model, sealing material and required piece count identify the correct spare-parts line.

Can a manual valve later be fitted with an actuator?

Retrofitting depends on the stem connection, mounting arrangement and required operating torque. A gear operator by itself does not establish actuator compatibility. The actuator interface and control requirements belong in the assembly review before that change is ordered.

Can an industrial valve be used in a fire-protection system?

Fire-protection specifications require the applicable approval for the exact valve model and service. A general industrial valve’s material, flange size or pressure designation does not establish that approval. Our fire-protection valve range has its own product page and purchasing scope.

Can I replace a gate valve with a ball valve at the same size?

The replacement needs its own installation and service review. Face-to-face length, port arrangement, operator clearance and duty can differ even when both valves have the same nominal flange size.
