Single-Axis Solar Tracker Structure Manufacturer

Fabricated rotating rows with bearing, drive and foundation interfaces

We supply steel structures and mechanical connection parts for project-configured single-axis solar trackers. Torque members, module carriers and bearing supports follow the selected row arrangement. The package identifies the drive, controls and foundation interfaces alongside the fabricated steel, so each supplier works from the same row geometry.

Tracker aperture, row pitch and GCR

A wider tracker aperture requires more row pitch at the same ground coverage ratio. The normalized relationship below lets the layout team compare those quantities before the row steel is scheduled.

Ground coverage ratio (%)Pitch per metre of aperture (m/m)

303.333

Calculated from Sandia PVPMC’s row relationship GCR = aperture/pitch, with both dimensions measured at consistent row datums. Values are rounded to three decimals. The accepted array layout supplies its aperture, row pitch, terrain levels and rotation limits for the ordered structure.

Tracker geometry and operating positions

Axis orientation and rotation convention

The row drawing identifies the axis direction, zero position and positive rotation. Those references carry through the energy model, mechanical drawing and controller configuration, keeping the physical row and its commands aligned.

Tracking, stow and service positions

Normal tracking, protective stow and maintenance positions can place the module plane at different angles. Their accepted travel envelope establishes the clearances around posts, drives, cables and adjacent rows.

Qualification for the selected configuration

IEC 62817 addresses design qualification of tracker components and complete systems. Where specified, the report identifies the tested configuration and adopted edition; the project record matches the ordered row, drive and controls to that scope.

IEC 62817 design qualification

IEC 62817 is the design qualification standard for PV solar trackers, with test procedures for key components and for the complete tracker system. UL 3703 and UL 2703 apply to US installations. Structural and foundation design stays with the project, since it follows local requirements and soil conditions.

Torque members, bearing stations and drive seats

Segment joints that retain alignment

The connection detail locates the tube ends, splice engagement and fastening pattern. Prepared segments retain their joint orientation and member marks, including the end pieces beside the drive.

Bearing seats and post heads

Bearing housings meet the post through the specified seat and fixing pattern. Hole positions, bracket elevation and the bearing centerline are checked together before the row is assembled.

Drive mounting and the swept envelope

Drive plates and mating connections carry their released dimensions. The module corners and carrier ends sweep around the axis, so the accepted envelope includes the torque-member offset, site levels and the required tool access.

Tracker row packages for OEM and EPC orders

Repeated row families

A repeated row retains one module arrangement, support pattern and connection set. Short perimeter rows and terrain-transition rows have separate marks where their segments or supports change.

Steel supplied around an identified drive

A buyer-selected drive can be incorporated through its mounting and torque-transfer interfaces. Our component list identifies the fabricated support pieces and any mechanical or control equipment included with the order.

Tracker steel fit and row identification

Straightness and connection datums

Checks locate the torque member, joint faces and attachment features against the released row drawing. The measurement record identifies the supported condition and datum used for each feature.

Bearing and drive trial fit

The specified trial assembly checks seating, fastening access and movement through the accepted positions. The represented row and its included components remain identifiable in the record.

Member finish and installed identity

Finish requirements distinguish rotating members, posts, brackets and fasteners. Part marks retain the row family and segment position after coating, ready for the installation list.

Tracker rows packed by segment and block

Long members supported at their bodies

Torque-member segments and carriers are separated and restrained for handling. Bearing seats, prepared ends and protruding plates have their own protection.

Mechanical sets kept with their row

Bearing units, joints and fastening groups are counted by the matching row or segment. Drive and control items retain separate equipment identities and packing lines where included.

The offer itemizes row steel, connection parts, finish and required records. Drawing preparation, included drive/control equipment, packing and shipment terms remain visible commercial lines.

Single-axis tracker purchasing questions

How does backtracking affect the row layout?

Backtracking uses the sun position and row geometry to reduce row-to-row shading. The adopted model retains the actual aperture, pitch and terrain inputs; the corresponding control configuration uses that same row definition.

How is a bifacial module arrangement handled?

The exact module model establishes its support zones, frame attachment and rear-side clearances. Carrier placement, cables and the rotating-member geometry are reviewed with that arrangement, while the energy model uses the corresponding rear-irradiance inputs.

Can a row be shortened at the site boundary?

Short rows can be included as defined row families. Their module count, support stations, end segments and drive arrangement follow the released layout and remain separately identified in the material list.

What identifies a replacement tracker bearing?

The bearing reference includes its torque-member interface, stationary mounting, permitted movement and mating hardware. The original part number or released drawing keeps those features together for a replacement quote.

How are power and communications included in the order?

The package schedule identifies the included motors, local power components, controllers, sensors and communication connections. Each equipment group retains its supply boundary and interfaces to site power and monitoring.

How are changes to a released tracker row handled?

A module, drive or support change is assessed against the affected rotation envelope, reactions and mating parts. The accepted revision then updates the row drawing, component list and the manufacturing or inspection work that changes.
