Threaded Steel Elbows Supplier

Forged 45° and 90° NPT elbows for steel piping assemblies

We source A105 threaded elbows for small-bore pipework and equipment packages. Choose the change of direction, NPT size and fitting class together. A 90° elbow and a 45° elbow occupy different space, so the order keeps the bend angle and center-to-end dimension attached to the fitting description.

90° threaded elbow center-to-end dimensions

Dimension A runs from the pipe centerline intersection to the fitting end face. It helps check the elbow position before the pipe is cut and threaded.

Selected Class 3000 threaded 90° elbow reference dimensions from the Bonney Forge dimensional catalog. The threaded table and center-to-end A drawing are used; socket-weld, 45° and other class dimensions are separate. Millimeters are converted from the inch fractions.

Forging grade and threaded fitting class

A105 carbon-steel forgings

A105 describes the material, not a complete order. The elbow angle, connection, class and required records remain separate parts of the fitting specification.

Threaded classes

ASME B16.11 includes threaded Classes 2000, 3000 and 6000. Class 9000 belongs to socket-weld fittings in this standard. The threaded series stops at Class 6000.

NPT connection

The female ends use ASME B1.20.1 NPT threads. Specify the same thread system on mating pipe nipples and valves.

Select the angle and end arrangement

90° female elbow

Two female threaded ends turn the run through a right angle. Check the outside body envelope as well as the center-to-end dimension where the fitting sits near a wall or frame.

45° female elbow

A 45° fitting changes the route without a full right-angle turn. Its layout dimension must come from the 45° pattern, which has its own pipe-cutting dimensions.

Street elbow

A street pattern has one male and one female end. Name that pattern explicitly — the main specification otherwise supplies the two-female elbow.

Reducing elbow

A reducing pattern needs both end sizes and the angle. It changes direction and size in the same fitting, with a different body arrangement from an equal elbow.

Elbows for compact equipment pipework

Instrument and auxiliary runs

Small-bore threaded branches need accurate angle and end descriptions around instruments and equipment. The fabrication drawing determines which connections can use threaded fittings.

Skid corners and offsets

A fitting schedule can combine 90° turns and 45° offsets. Keep the angle visible on each drawing mark to avoid an incorrect run length during prefabrication.

Replacement fittings

Match the old connection system, material and class before replacing a damaged elbow. Photographs show the angle; the thread standard and allowable service come from the original fitting identification.

Angle, threads and elbow identification

Angle and pattern

Check the specified angle and whether the ends are female-female, street or reducing. Each pattern is checked on its own, even at a matching NPS.

Thread engagement

Inspect both threaded openings for damage and contamination. The specified gauge checks the thread connection without relying on the apparent diameter of the opening.

Center-to-end length

Measure from the correct centerline datum to the end face. Comparing the overall outside width with a center-to-end table gives the wrong acceptance result.

Material and class

Match the fitting identification and supplied documents to the piping schedule. Keep different material grades and classes separated during receiving.

Pack elbows by angle and size

Separate the two angles

We list 45° and 90° elbows on separate quotation lines. Size, angle, class and count stay together on the packing identification.

Protect the openings

Threaded openings are protected from handling damage and debris. Small elbows are packed in identified groups, each group labeled with its size and pattern.

Complete the fitting takeoff

Send the elbow quantities with any couplings, tees, unions or nipples. The quote identifies the supplied patterns and required records before the order is accepted.

Threaded elbow purchasing questions

Can threaded elbows be rotated backward to line up the pipe?

Backing off a made-up tapered-thread joint can disturb its seal. Assembly and final orientation should follow the piping procedure and the selected sealing system; do not plan the layout around loosening a completed joint.

Is a 90° elbow center-to-end dimension the pipe cut length?

No. It is a fitting geometry dimension. The pipe cut length also depends on the adjoining components, required centerline positions and thread engagement.

Can I use two 45° elbows instead of one 90° elbow?

They create a different assembly envelope with an additional joint. The piping layout must allow the offset and the extra connection; they are not a direct dimensional replacement for one 90° fitting.

How can an elbow be assembled when both adjoining pipe runs are fixed?

A standard threaded elbow needs space to turn during makeup. The piping layout may need a union or another specified separable connection to complete an assembly between fixed ends. Its location is part of the fabrication arrangement rather than a reason to loosen a completed tapered-thread joint.

Do Class 3000 elbows fit any pipe with the same NPS?

The mating thread must be NPT and the pipe and fitting must satisfy the project piping class. Matching the nominal size alone does not establish material, wall selection or service suitability.

Is a Class 150 malleable-iron elbow equivalent to an A105 forged steel elbow?

No. They use different material and fitting standards and can have different pressure-temperature limits and dimensions. A matching nominal thread size does not make the bodies or specified service interchangeable.
