ASTM A106 Grade B pipe for plant and fabrication purchases
We supply seamless carbon steel pipe for material lists that require a pipe body without a production weld. Our ASTM A106 Grade B selections cover NPS 1/2–8 in Schedule 40 and 80, with full-length and cut-piece supply.
A106 Grade B pipe is supplied to the specified diameter, wall and delivered condition. Full lengths, finished cut pieces and machining blanks are kept separate on the cut list.
Process & Steam Piping
ASTM A106 covers seamless carbon steel pipe intended for high-temperature service. For a plant order, the design still sets the allowable pressure and temperature; we supply the grade and dimensions on that approved pipe schedule.

Machined Ends & Fabricated Spools
A fabricator may need extra length for facing or a specified bore allowance for an end detail. These allowances belong to the purchased blank, so cutting to the final drawing length too early does not remove material needed in the shop.

Dimensions follow the nominal pipe series; acceptance follows the ordered A106 specification. The table is not a service-pressure rating.
Delivered Condition & Machining Preparation
Hot-finished or cold-drawn supply retains the specified delivery condition. For machined parts, the cut list also includes the facing or bore allowance needed by the next operation.
Cut Blanks or Finished Pipe Lengths
We cut finished-length pieces and machining blanks as separate items. Prepared bevels follow the specified joint detail, while blanks retain the agreed machining allowance.
Facing allowance
Additional length retained where the fabrication drawing requires it
Bore preparation
Any machining diameter and allowance identified separately from nominal pipe ID
Weld ends
Plain or beveled ends with the specified root-face requirement
Surface & Bore Condition
Temporary oil or varnish supports storage and handling. The fabricator's next operation may require a clean bore or an uncoated weld area, so those areas are kept distinct from general surface protection.
Outside surface
Ordered cleaning and temporary preservation
Inside bore
Bore cleanliness requirements included where the process needs them
Prepared areas
Protection compatible with subsequent welding or machining
Seamless Pipe Production & Body Checks
Inspection covers wall distribution, surface condition and material identity, with the tests required by the ordered A106 specification.
Piercing, Sizing & Finishing
A solid starting form is pierced and worked into a hollow section, then sized and finished by the selected route. The delivery records identify the ordered material and condition.
Wall & Pipe-Body Examination
Wall checks consider variation around the circumference as well as the nominal value. Applicable pressure or nondestructive testing addresses pipe integrity under the ordered specification.
Heat Identity
The material certificate connects the grade and test results to the delivered pipe batch.
Wall Distribution
Wall checks cover variation around the circumference against the ordered tolerance.
Delivery Condition
The manufacturing route and applicable heat-treatment condition stay with the material record.
Prepared Ends
End squareness, bevel and any machining allowance are checked against the released cut list.
Grade, Wall and Length Identification
Schedule 40 and 80 Bundles
Schedule 40 and 80 can share the same outside diameter. Bundle references keep them distinct during receiving and workshop allocation.
Bore and End Protection
End caps limit loose debris entering the pipe. Machined or beveled ends are protected from direct contact during strapping and loading.
Cut-Blank Identification
Part references distinguish final-length pieces from blanks that still need facing. The packing list records both their lengths and quantities.
Planned plant and fabrication orders
We quote the pipe, cut plan and required inspection as one supply scope. Production completion and transport time are listed separately for the destination and required receipt date.
Seamless Carbon Steel Pipe FAQ
Can I replace a welded pipe with seamless pipe?
A change of manufacturing route still needs the project's material approval. Matching diameter and nominal wall alone does not establish compliance with the original grade, tests or delivery condition.
Can I order pipe for machining from the listed dimensions?
Yes, but compare the finished part with the pipe's tolerance envelope. A nominal inside diameter calculated from OD minus twice the wall is not a guaranteed finished bore or machining allowance.
Is a 20 ft pipe the same finished length as 6 m pipe?
No. An exact 20 ft length is 6.096 m. We retain the requested unit and finished length on the order, so 6 m and exact 20 ft pieces are not treated as the same cut length.
Does a thicker schedule change the outside diameter?
At the same NPS, Schedule 40 and 80 use the same nominal OD in the table. The wall and resulting bore change, which matters for internal fit and flow calculations.
Can small replacement quantities join a larger purchase?
We can review them on the same material list. Grade, wall and processing minimums are priced by line, so the combined order can keep replacement pieces identifiable without presenting them as local ready stock.
Can the bore and weld ends be kept clear of temporary protection?
Yes, those areas can be identified separately from general surface protection. The finish scope states the required bore condition and any uncoated areas needed for welding or later machining.
