Hot Rolled Steel Coil Supplier

Bulk hot-rolled strip for tube mills and fabricators

Hot-rolled coil supplies feedstock for welded tube, roll forming and general fabrication. A36, Q235, SS400 and tube-making strip grades are available with oiled surfaces or separately specified preparation; full-width coils and prepared strip have distinct order dimensions.

These are two separate catalog series. The millimeter ranges are the supply basis; inch values are rounded conversions. Each quotation states the available grade and exact thickness-width combination within the selected series.

Strip Thickness, Width and Edges

Tube forming and fabrication depend on the actual strip dimensions. A gauge reference is paired with a decimal thickness and its tolerance; width identifies the steel entering the line before any edge trimming. The receiving specification also defines whether the edges remain as rolled or require preparation.

Calculated with a steel density of 7,850 kg/m³: mass in kg/m = 7.85 × thickness in mm × width in mm ÷ 1,000. Length per metric tonne = 1,000 ÷ mass in kg/m. The table uses nominal rectangular, uncoated strip dimensions, with no allowance for thickness tolerance, oil, scale or processing loss. It is a material-planning reference, separate from the coil series above.

US coil specifications

ASTM A1011/A1011M covers designated hot-rolled sheet and strip products; ASTM A1018/A1018M covers designated heavy-thickness coils. A US material request includes the steel type or grade and the applicable specification. These coil designations are separate from an A36 structural material requirement, and a similar grade name does not establish equivalence.

Mill scale, oil and pickled surfaces

As-rolled mill scale

Hot rolling leaves an oxide scale on the strip surface. An oiled hot-rolled coil retains that scale; oiling is a separate treatment. This surface suits feedstock orders whose downstream operation includes the required cleaning or descaling.

Pickled and oiled requests

Pickling removes mill scale, while the subsequent oil protects the cleaned surface during handling. HRPO identifies that distinct processing condition. We review pickled-and-oiled requests separately from our standard oiled hot-rolled coil lines and itemize the preparation on the quotation.

Preparation for welding and painting

The downstream process determines the required surface cleanliness. Welding areas need the relevant local preparation; a paint system needs its specified cleaning and surface profile. Neither an oiled designation nor a pickled finish, by itself, establishes that the strip is ready for every paint or welding process.

Full-width coils, slit strip and cut lengths

Full-width parent coils

At a fixed width, thicker strip has more mass per meter and reaches the same coil-weight limit with less usable length. Full-width supply therefore pairs the strip dimensions with the receiving bore, maximum outside diameter and individual weight. Winding direction and the condition of the coil head also affect direct feeding.

Slit and recoiled strip

Tube-making strip is prepared to the producer’s slit width, forming allowance and weld allowance. Slitting and recoiling are quoted with the specified width tolerance, burr, camber and receiving-coil limits.

Cut-to-length material

Uncoiling, leveling and cutting change the delivery format from a coil to flat pieces. Length, flatness and cut-edge requirements then become part of acceptance. Cut lengths are priced by their finished dimensions and processing scope, separately from a full-coil feedstock line.

Hot-rolled feedstock for tubes and fabricated parts

Welded tube production

Hot-rolled strip is the feedstock for our welded steel tubes. Material grade, strip width and edge preparation affect forming and the weld seam. The finished tube is ordered and accepted to its own product specification; the coil material record remains part of that production trail.

Roll-formed sections and brackets

Channels, profiles and fabricated brackets need a grade suited to the bend and forming operation. Thickness, bend geometry and surface preparation work together. A structural designation establishes material requirements; it does not replace the forming details for the particular part.

Structural plate cut from coils

A coil cut into a structural plate needs the relevant plate specification and processed-product testing, including the applicable ASTM A6/A6M requirements. The coil identity alone does not establish finished-plate acceptance. That testing and delivery scope is defined with the cut-to-length material.

Strip thickness and width

Strip thickness and width are checked at the measuring positions required by the ordered specification, with the applicable tolerances on the dimensional record.

Edges and coil shape

Edge cracks, burrs and winding alignment affect how strip feeds into the next operation. The receiving condition covers edge damage, telescoping and loose wraps. Prepared strip carries the additional width and camber requirements from its processing line.

Surface condition

Surface checks distinguish the ordered mill-scale, oiled or prepared condition and identify handling damage. Scratches, corrosion and surface defects are evaluated against the agreed acceptance requirements for the downstream use.

Material and coil identity

Grade and heat or batch records stay associated with individual coil identification. Where specified, the material record carries chemistry and mechanical test results for the applicable steel. Coil numbers connect those records with the receiving list.

Wholesale coil pricing and packing

Net-weight price basis

Our hot-rolled coil quotations identify the material, strip dimensions, surface and weight unit on each line. One metric tonne is 1,000 kg. Actual net steel weight, theoretical strip calculations and gross shipping weight remain distinct quantities; preparation, packing and freight have an explicit price scope.

Material lots and dispatch

The grade, strip size and surface preparation determine each supply lot. The quotation states its minimum quantity and dispatch terms. A mixed-size order carries separate material lines and any different production dates, so the shipment plan reflects the coils actually being supplied.

Protected edges and coil eyes

Secure bands and suitable supports keep the coil stable during handling. Edge and eye protection address contact damage at the wound-strip faces and the bore. The packing list records coil identification, strip dimensions, individual net and gross weights and the agreed unloading orientation.

Hot-rolled coil purchasing questions

Can the order use a minimum thickness instead of a nominal thickness?

Yes. Identify it as a minimum-thickness requirement and include the required tolerance basis. A nominal thickness permits the variation defined by its specification; the same number stated as a minimum has a different acceptance meaning. We quote the material against the stated basis.

Can coils be split to suit a lower-capacity decoiler?

Coil splitting and recoiling are reviewed processing requests. The line needs its bore, maximum outside diameter and maximum individual weight defined together. The quotation states the accepted finished-coil geometry and processing scope; a maximum weight alone is not a complete receiving requirement.

Can I order hot-rolled coil using an older Q345 designation?

Yes, the inquiry can retain Q345 with its original standard edition and grade suffix. We review the requested material identity before quoting. A later Q355 designation is not substituted automatically; any alternative needs its own agreed material requirements.

How are repeat orders tied to the approved material?

The repeat-order line retains the approved specification, grade, strip dimensions and acceptance requirements. A new heat or batch keeps its own coil identity and material records. Any proposed material or delivery-condition change is identified separately before order acceptance.
